In the Blog-Zone Question 1

Question 1: Name and elaborate slightly on five general ways or areas you can think of in which chemistry powers are currently being used "for good." (No specific names or details.) Which of these ideas interests you the most? Why?

First off, chemistry is used to make energy (mainly fossil fuels) which run our industrialized world. We use it for cars, plane, cooking, etc, so without it we would be pretty stuck. Secondly 9a follow up on the first), it is being used to find alternate power sources other than fossil fuels because we are quickly running out of them. Third, chemistry is used in the making of medicine; whether it be balancing the medicine or the actual chemicals in it. Fourth, and arguably good and bad, chemistry is used in the military in multiple ways, but the most devastating way comes in the form of bombs (i.e. nuclear or hydrogen). Lastly, chemistry is used to isolate certain chemicals used in other areas of work.

Of these ideas the most interesting is the alternate power source idea. The world is rapidly running out of fossil fuel energy and needs to find other ways to power the itself. It is by far the most important because without large amounts of our form of energy available we will be "sent back to the stone age" and or die. I do not know how to create or find such an energy source, but the energy released in the burning of hydrocarbons is still here, just scattered, which means it's still usable. The only problem is that it takes energy to recollect it and reform broken bonds. So hopefully someday soon, someone finds a plentiful enough energy source that works for our world.

I posted on Mica's, Ryan's, and Ben's blogs.
